veggie tales

...no, not that Veggie Tales, just veggie tales: Vince started eating vegetables in the past week. We've had quite a bit of fun with it. First he had his 6 month well-baby checkup, which went well. He is in the 25th percentile for weight and 70th for height. Go figure. Anyway, Dr. M told us to go ahead and start the veggies and a sippy cup! That was really fun. He was so excited when he first tried water! It took a while for him to figure out the cup, and now he spits more water out than he actually takes in, but our boy loves to use the cup.
I decided to make my own baby food to save some cash (I can't believe the price difference!!!) so while I worked on stocking up the homemade food, I used jar food carrots to start. (You're not supposed to make your own carrots because of the nitrate content in them.) He loved them! Gobbled them right up. Then we tried green beans, which I made and Vince did NOT love. I'm hoping that's an acquired taste for him because we have a lot of them! He had a weird rash on the side of his face when we gave him the green beans, so I freaked out and called the Dr., who assured me that he was fine and just to wait and try to introduce the GBs again at a later date. So he got carrots that night again. Since then he has tried and loved both sweet potatoes and squash. Call me silly, but when he likes the food I make for him, I get so happy! Like, "Yeah, he likes my cooking!" I know, it's silly, huh? We have SO MUCH squash. I can't believe how many servings one butternut squash makes! Tomorrow I'm going to give him avacado and make some peas to freeze. I also have a mango for him, but I think it will have gone bad by the time I can introduce fruits to him...I didn't read the recipe for avacado and mango before buying them: it's not recommended to freeze the puree like it is with other veggies. I am also excited to try pears, peaches, mashed bananas, and apples! I'm a baby food nut!
Vince had his 6 month photos this week too. He is such a little champ. We have so much fun playing dress up with him! See photos on left.
We are excited to be able to celebrate Jesus's birthday with Vince this year. Merry Christmas!

Dual Ownership takes on a new meaning

So we now have two homes: one in Murphysboro and one in Danvers. We closed on the 7th and we love our new house. I will post photos soon; I know some of you are wanting to see it. I am so eager to get down there and have our whole family together again!
